What should I take?
First, you must now have completed an ESTA visa form on-line or at a travel agents to be able to gain entry into the USA. You will need one for each member of the family and they now cost $59 each.
Driving to your accommodation, you will pass toll booths so do have plenty of small change or low denomination notes to pay these.
Do make sure any hand luggage fits into the bag sizers at the front of passport control. If they are too big they will not be allowed through and you will have to go back to the check- in desk and start all over again to check the offending baggage into the hold. All airlines are very strict on weight now, so do weigh everything at home first and if possible put as much as you can in your pockets you can buy special body suits with a multitude of pockets for just this purpose. You only have to wear them until you are on the plane, then you can put them in the locker above your seat. It still seems grossly (pardon the pun) unfair to weigh baggage and charge for extra weight, but not to weigh people and charge them!
Try not to over pack. You will not need many clothes and certainly not any formal wear. The Floridians do not dress up to eat out. You will feel quite out of place if you dress up to eat in most of the restaurants in Orlando. Also, most villas have washing machines so need for lots of underwear. I do know somebody who does not take any, he buys it all very, very cheaply in Walmart then throws it away when he has worn it!
If you favour the once a day application sun lotions like P25 or Ultrasun, buy these at home or at the airport as they do not sell them in Florida. If you take any medication do not forget this. It is not that easy to get without involving the cost of a trip to a doctor to replace it. I usually take my preferred pain killers just in case as the Americans take quite different pain relief to us. Although Ibuprofen is widely available. One example is Zovirax which my husband uses when he gets cold sores and this is only available by prescription in the USA.
As I am sure you will be visiting the theme parks, a MUST is comfortable shoes. You will be doing a great deal of walking
Take plenty of non alcoholic liquid during the flight to avoid dehydration, every 20 minutes is what the crew take. And do remember for every unit of alcohol you drink, under a pressurised cabin your body will react as if you have had 2 units. If you do not want to buy bottled water, you can fill up small paper cups from fountains in the aircraft. Most airlines do not charge for soft drinks.
