Visiting Harry P Leu Gardens
You have done Disney, done Universal, done Sea World and had an amazing time.
Now you are ready to have a gentler day out so may I suggest the Harry P Leu Gardens.
This is located in Orlando on Forest Avenue and the house was restored and the gardens created by Harry and his young wife.
The gardens contain the largest camellia collection outside California and the largest formal rose garden in Florida.
There is also a butterfly garden, tropical stream garden and bamboo cyclad garden.
Over 100 butterfly friendly plants are grown in the butterfly garden. These attract and sustain these gorgeous creatures. The plants are divided into larval and nectar.
There are no less than 3 miles of paved walk ways that lead you through 50 acres of stunning gardens; these include a vegetable and herb garden and a 3 acre weekend inspiration garden.
The garden house is open from 9. a. m. to 5. p. m every day and has ever changing art displays and information on all aspects of horticulture.
The Leu house has been beautifully restored and is on The National Register of Historic Places. Here you will trace the history of the home and its four owners.
The Leus donated the house and its gardens to Orlando City in 1961 having made a deed resriction that means the home can never be sold and it must always be run as a non profit making attraction.
Every month there are several special events held here. This varies from story telling sessions for the young. Also check out their concerts. See their website for what is on during your vacation.
One last thing; this is a lovely setting for a wedding so if you are planning to get married do consider this lovely location. You may be surprised to learn that the cost for a 2 hour wedding is only $750. You can always rent several homes on the same community for your guests.
Do allow a full day to visit Harry P, you will need it.
