Water Parks and Mini Golf Tips
Do not let the rain keep you from the water parks! During one holiday the day in a very busy schedule we were to go to Typhoon Lagoon we awoke to cloudy skies and rain. We checked with the park and they said that the park was to be open. When we arrived at about 10:15 a.m. the Cast Member at the turnstiles said that we were numbers 9 and 10 in the park for the day. This was in June and it was very warm although it rained most of the day, but it was like having the park to ourselves
During July and August it is not unusual to get heavy afternoon rain. The Water Parks tend to empty very quickly but usually these showers do not last for long. If you can browse in one of the stores when the rain stops you will find the weather less humid and the park much less crowded.
However if you are at a water park and they announce, "The National Weather Service has issued a thunderstorm/severe weather warning, we may close if it comes closer," just leave as quickly as possible to avoid the rush. We left when this happened at Typhoon Lagoon but my parents stayed on encountering huge crowds in the changing rooms and then a thunderstorm trapped them!
Friends of ours had trouble fitting their trip to Blizzard Beach into their busy schedule so decided to do a half -day arriving more than an hour before opening time and were the first ones there. Imagine their surprise when they were told that they were the First Family and they were the Ski Captains of the Day. They were allowed in half an hour early, got a medal, a giant free refillable mug, free locker, free towels, and a covered cabana to use. Two of their boys were also allowed to be the first ones down Summit Plummet. I do not know if this is a regular occurrence but they had a great time.
Crush 'n' Gusher is somewhat hidden off to the right when you enter Typhoon Lagoon. It has its own large chaise area, sand areas, and a walk-in pool area adjacent to the splash-down pool at the bottom of Crush 'n' Gusher. Crush n Gusher is a great water coaster however the rollers that help propel you faster and onward can give you a nice little rug burn on your rear-end. Try to keep your bottom from dropping through the hole in your inner tube to avoid this.
You can purchase an "all-you-can-drink" mug at Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach, these are currently $9ish and you can have free refills all day. Besides saving money on the day you purchase it, you can "renew" the mug for $5.50 on return days at either of the water parks for the rest of its life. Ours are 5 years old.
I have not travelled by bus to Blizzard Beach for some time but I believe that buses do not run from there after the park closes. If you go to play golf at Winter Summerland Miniature golf course outside park hours you may be forced to take a taxi home.
Arrange your golf tee time at Fantasia Gardens to coincide with the Fantasmic show across the road at Hollywood Studios. The whimsical Fantasmic music goes well with the golf course and it a great treat to see the fireworks at the end of the show.
If you are going to a non-Disney course to play mini golf be sure to look out for discount vouchers before your trip as nearly all of these courses issue discount vouchers. At many of them your second round, if you have the energy, is usually half price.
Whether you are at a Water Park or playing mini golf, enjoy.
