Saturday Night Cruise at Old Town
The Saturday Night Cruise at Old Town is the largest weekly car cruise in the whole of the United States of America!
A visit to Old Town is a ‘must do’ during your visit to Florida and if you combine it with the Saturday Night Cruise, you are in for a treat!
You may well have driven past Old Town, which is situated on the Highway 192, as it is on one of the main routes through central Florida and very close to Disney. It is easily recognised, particularly at night, by the lit up fairground and large bungee type attractions.
You can easily park to the side of Old Town. At night Old Town becomes alive and the atmosphere is fantastic! There are many individual little shops to browse as well as the fun attractions.
Saturday night is the highlight of the week for the infamous Saturday Night Cruise! Cars that take part have to be dated before 1972 and you will be overawed by the beautiful specimens that are on display! All have been lovingly restored and cared for by their proud owners.
The cars start arriving in the early afternoon and park up on display to the side of Old Town. You can wander through the lines of cars, marvel at them and chat to the owners. Many of the cars will display immaculately clean engines as well as pristine interiors and body finishes. The owners are all clearly very proud of their cars and are keen to talk about them and answer any questions.
It is for a sure a piece of history on display and for those of us old enough to remember the movies of the 1950s and 1960s it is a real trip down memory lane!
Owners come from many miles away to take part in the Cruise.
At around 8. 30pm the Saturday Night Cruise begins. Spectators gather along the main street through Old Town and the Cars begin to snake their way thorough. They drive out and around the front and back in to Old Town again. It really is a sight to behold so make sure you have your camera or video to hand!
To add to the mood, there is a live band playing on Saturday evenings, with the performance starting an hour or so before the Cruise. Music is from the 1950s and 1960s, to compliment the era that most of the cars are from.
There is dancing in front of the stage and everyone is having a great time!
Why not join in on this fun evening!
