Things to do if it rains in Orlando
What to do on a rainy day in Orlando? A good question. If it is in the height of the summer then you will probably get a short sharp shower at some time in the day. As long as you remember to bring a shower mac (or you can buy ponchos in all the theme parks) you will be fine. The weather is so hot you will dry out very quickly. Florida is tropical and as such the rainy season comes along every year from about June through to September. These showers only last about ten minutes or so.
The sort of rainy day I am talking about is more likely to happen in the winter. It doesn’t tend to rain all day as it does in the UK, but it can be dull and overcast and not very pleasant for a stroll round a theme park. Mind you, you won’t get too many queues for the rides on those days so it is not all bad news.
Somewhere like Downtown Disney is a great place to go when the weather is not perfect. Parking is very close to all the action and if you park near Cirque du Soleil you will not have far to walk. You could see a show in the evening at Cirque du Soleil ( you will have to book in the morning or afternoon) and right next door is a twenty four screen movie theatre, you could see a movie in the afternoon, maybe have dinner at Planet Hollywood then watch an amazingly spectacular circus show renowned all over the world. We would probably start with lunch at Wolfgang Pucks for a great pizza or any of the other amazing meals they have to offer.
If it is dry but just overcast, you could spend the morning visiting all the shops in Downtown Disney, West Side and Pleasure Island and have plenty of choice of restaurants for lunch and dinner. For good old fish and chips, you can do no better than the Irish fish and chip shop attached to the Raglan Irish pub and bar. Pleasure Island is being re-developed during 2011 so there will be lots of new things to see and do.
Another idea is to visit one of the Shopping Malls which are all under cover. The Florida Mall is a general all rounder in the way of shops or The Mall at Millenia is ideal for more up market shopping or for just a browse; this is also completely under cover. While you are in the malls area there is a bowling alley and an ice rink which you could try.
So do not despair if the day looks dull, there still so much to do.
