Publix Supermarkets
One of the great advantages of staying at a villa is that you enjoy shopping for household goods and food at the local supermarkets. At home we tend to do a Supermarket dash at the weekends but whilst in Florida we have time to have a leisurely browse around the supermarkets enjoying seeing all the different varieties of food, the only section we tend to rush past is the English section with its baked beans and orange quosh!
We are fortunate as from where our villa is situated at Lindfields we have easy access to two branches of Publix, one at Summer Bay and the other at the Orange Lake shopping complex. At Summer Bay you will also find a Nail Bar and Pinch a Penny pool shop whilst at Orange Lake there is a recently opened Millers Ale House and in the spring of 2011 an Applebee’s restaurant will also open.
There is plenty of parking at both stores and the interiors are very similar. As you enter you will see the in store magazines on your left they are always worth browsing through to see the weeks special offers. Some kind of meat, often steak and fish are on offer each week. Also look for vouchers in the weekend newspapers as they often have money off vouchers.
There are cooked chicken counters in both stores these can be very useful at the end of the day if rather than eating out you want to go back to your villa to enjoy an evening by the pool. We often buy these along with coleslaw and mashed potato on the way home and of course pudding can always be ice cream from our oversized freezer!
There is a pharmacy should you have a prescription or need advice along with a huge array of medicines and tablets. Suntan cream can also be bought here but check the price compared with the likes of Walmart.
Here is a great selection of fresh fruit, Florida oranges are to die for. We always keep some salad ingredients in the fridge for lunch on the days we decide to stay by the pool. We also stock up with pasta, pizzas and some great Friday Snacks such as mozzarella sticks and wings which we do not appear to be able to buy at home.
We usually keep in a supply of apple and grape juice for the girls but I can hear my Mother say every time “Why can’t we buy anything small in Orlando”!
If you require bottled water they come in large containers. You can choose from a huge selection of wine usually far cheaper than back home in the UK.
If you do go to Publix enjoy your shopping.
