One Scoop or two?

Slightly hidden away between the Yacht and the Beach Club, two of Disney’s finest hotels, is the Beaches and Cream Soda Shop, a little gem of a restaurant.

Small but charismatic are the words I would use to describe Beaches and Cream. Decked out in the style of an old fashioned 50’s soda shop the atmosphere is cheerful and full of life. Plenty of all-American favourites are served up, something for everyone in your party with no disappointments. Serving meals throughout the day, from breakfast ‘til dinner with snacks also available for those of you with only small appetites.

What diner would not be complete without milkshakes and ice-cream? And Beaches and Cream certainly lives up to its name. Their most celebrated ice-cream being the infamous “Kitchen Sink”. I have never been tempted to try one of these monstrosities but I have certainly seen one and they are not for the faint hearted, believe me! Imagine every flavour of ice-cream served up with fruit, cookies, cakes, brownies and candies all finished off with mountains of whipped cream and cherries served in a dish shaped to resemble a “Kitchen Sink”. Now for the best bit, if you can finish it in one hour (no cheating it has to be all by yourself) the restaurant will not charge you for it. Not only that but you will be presented with a special certificate welcoming you as a member to “The Kitchen Sink Club” signed by none other than the boss himself, Mickey Mouse!

Personally, I always stick to my favourite, a banana split and if the restaurant is busy inside there is always the take away option or there are tables outside where you can sit and watch the time go by or your waistline increase! The tables are quiet a novelty in that they are shaped to look like ice-cream cones. Disney certainly does think of everything down to the smallest detail.

The only drawback with this restaurant is that during busy periods the noise level can be a bit overpowering so you may want to choose to eat slightly earlier or later in the afternoon if you want to be able to hear yourself think. The servers are dressed in the costumes of the 50’s and to add to the ambience a juke-box blares out classic singles by the great songsters of the era, Elvis, The Supremes, Perry Como and Bobby Darin to name but a few.

So if you fancy a bit of nostalgia or ever wondered what it was like to live in the 50’s, nip down to the Beaches and Cream Soda Shop for a taste of heaven.
