Afternoon Tea at the Grand Floridian 2 (from a Ladies point of view)
Afternoon Tea at the Grand Floridian 2 (from a Ladies point of view).
When you’ve been to Orlando several times and you’re looking for new experiences, why not try afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian.
Towards the end of your stay and when you are beginning to get a little burnt out with the hullabaloo of the parks, a refined visit to the genteel Grand Floridian Resort is the perfect anecdote. On arrival, go the whole hog and indulge in Valet parking. As soon as you come to a halt an army of costumed assistants looking like extras from “The Great Gatsby” rush to help you from the car and then whisk your vehicle away for parking.
Upon entering the resort you are directed through the Hotel’s magnificent atrium lobby to the Garden Room where the tables are laid for afternoon tea. This elegant room is comfortably furnished with old world charm and offers delightful views across an immaculately tended flower garden. Waitresses dressed in crisp white starched aprons and Victorian type dress and are indeed very attentive, this being matched by the sparkling white and starched table cloths and immaculately laid out tables. The menu is presented, which amusingly offers the American idea of high tea. Although, they get it right with dainty sandwiches and pastries, we were a little surprised to find a platter of meats and pate served with port, having said that, all of our party really enjoyed the food and the experience.
The choux pastry swans were a visual delight and the English trifle was delicious.
Tea pots came covered by velvet, tassled tea cosies and each place setting had an individual tea strainer alongside the Royal Albert china. Our server was eager to learn our impressions of the English Tea, checking our reactions for “authenticity”. Though a polite young lady, she was unable to answer some questions about the food as it was outside of her parameters of experience. For example, she was not able to say whether the pate was smooth or coarse as she had no other knowledge of pate to judge it against, however, this should not detract from a good, if not expensive experience.
After you have finished your afternoon tea experience you are free to walk around the gardens and take in the sites of this magnificent hotel and leisure area finally exiting the hotel and paying for an receinving delivery of your vehicle from the valet parking staff.
Would we go again, almost certainly yes for a wonderful relaxing afternoon in beautiful surroundings with good food and company.
