Concourse Steakhouse Contemporary Resort

When you board the express monorail at the Transportation and Ticket Centre headed for the Magic Kingdom, you pass by the Concourse Restaurant as you drive through the Contemporary Resort. Most people do not realise it is there as they are busy looking at Chef Mickeys which is next to it.

You can find this restaurant on the fourth floor of the Contemporary Resort and, although we have only had lunch here, it is also open for breakfast and dinner. Located near the Concourse Steakhouse is the Outer Rim Bar. This is a great place to sit, relax, and have a drink while enjoying the view of Bay Lake. Children are welcome in the lounge area.

A 90-foot-high mural depicting southwest-themed native-American children and animals dominates the Grand Canyon Concourse and the Concourse Steakhouse is situated on the south side of this huge piece of art. Try to find the five-legged goat hidden among the characters!

The decor of the Concourse Steakhouse is a mix of Southwest and ultra-modern. The chairs are painted in black lacquer and the tabletops are a muted green, the carpet is coloured in multi-shades of purple.

Soft music plays in the background, featuring new age and soft jazz. There is a narrow aisle of booths and tables directly behind the reception desk, these are fine if you have a very small party but we prefer the main part of the restaurant.

There is no ceiling over the restaurant, so you can look up and see the stair-stepped balconies of the hotel and a skylight 14 stories above. The express monorail can also be seen as it passes through the hotel on its way to the Magic Kingdom.

As the Contemporary Resort is a "convention" hotel if they have a lot of delegates at their conferences you might have to wait a few minutes before being seated. The food and service at this restaurant are excellent but being situated next to Chef Mickeys it can at times be noisy.

We decided to go for lunch as a break during our visit to Magic Kingdom during the middle of the day. It is just one stop away by monorail and you feel you are really miles away from the hustle and bustle of the theme park.

My parents opted for soft drinks; the girls loved the Classic Smoothies with strawberries, bananas, mango and orange juice whilst I enjoyed a Pina Colada with their own mix of Midori and Captain Morgan Spiced Rum.

We had not had breakfast and all decided to have a starter of French Onion Soup. This was a meal in itself with lashing of stringy cheese.

My Father had the Steakhouse Burger that came on an onion bun with French fries, he added bacon and cheddar and just managed to finish it! The girls, already full from their soup and mindful they needed to leave room for the desert, shared a Penne Pasta with chicken, pancetta, onion and tomato. Mom and I both had Turkey Club Sandwiches on multigrain bread.

Whilst the adults finished their meal with a coffee the girls each had a “Sticky Mickey” desert, you must let your children try these if you go to the Concourse.

We had a very enjoyable meal and felt rejuvenated for our return to Magic Kingdom.
