Epcot Flower and Garden 2010
This will be the seventeenth time the flower and Garden Festival has taken place when it started in March 2010. My Mother had her birthday whilst in Florida last year and so qualified for free entry to one of the Disney Parks. As she was busy on her actual birthday she called in at Animal Kingdom with her passport and was given a free ticket to be used anytime before her next birthday so she went to the 2010Festival.
The Festival started a couple of weeks earlier on March 3rd and was on for seventy five days. By starting earlier it was possible to have even more brilliant colour with petunias, snapdragons and other plants in bloom at this time of year.
As you enter the Epcot front entrance you are greeted by Donald Duck and his topiary pals who celebrate the Great Outdoors at the Epcot front entrance. In this topiary with a North American theme they saw live waterfall and pond features, Goofy in a fly-fishing misadventure, as well as Daisy Duck roasting marshmallows over a campfire.
They also saw the hundreds of butterflies in an expanded and relocated, futuristic-themed Bambi’s Butterfly House which I believe is twice as big as the previous one. This was found in Future World West where they were greeted by Bambi and butterfly floral topiaries. Here there was a special discovery exhibit where caterpillars emerge from their chrysalis.
There are special gardens, events and children’s play areas throughout the park. They enjoyed the New Victory Garden with topiary pals Minnie, Donald, Pluto and Goofy at American Adventure where they tend tomatoes, beans, peppers, herbs in their Victory Garden as a tribute the history of World War II gardens.
At the enlarged Pixie Hollow Fairy Garden there are were more topiaries of Tinker Bell and friends while they saw American Gothic Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse topiaries over at World Showcase Plaza.

Disney Gardening at Home presentations – Disney horticulturists “shared gardening tips and led guests in a hands-on, take-home activity. ”
The Great American Gardeners series, this is where gardening celebrities and authors from across the country share their gardening secrets.
The Garden Town Festival Centre, my Mother spent a long time here as you can shop for Festival merchandise as well as attending speaker presentations and demonstrations and ask gardening questions of the experts.
They were not there at the weekends but if they had been they could have seen one of the Flower Power Concerts which take place in the open-air America Gardens Theatre every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
They were very enthusiastic about their visit and hope to go again next year.
