Discovery Cove
What a fantastic place to visit, we had always wanted to swim with dolphins and here we were able to do just that.
On arrival at the park, get here as early as you can, parking is free, we were seen by an efficient host and ' checked in' for the day. The process allowed us to use our ID cards as a payment method and this meant that buying photographs and other souvenirs of our day was really easy. You do not have to bring anything as everything was provided.
We started by finding our lockers, getting changed into swim and wet suits, you could choose a full suit, one with short arms and kegs or a waistcoat style. The short suits were great, but rather tight on my legs, I am only a UK size 8, but the body of the suite seemed huge to get one that did not cut off the circulation to my toes! It was off for breakfast then, masks and snorkels in hand.
Food was lovely, all day, you could eat when you wanted and as the day was overcast and a little cool, I enjoyed sipping at a coffee whilst relaxing in the water.
The dolphin experience was one I wont forget, the trainer was very knowledgeable and gave us some information prior to entering the water, we all had chance to interact with the dolphin and even had a ride holding onto her fin as she pulled each of us in turn through the water. After, we had chance to take some of our own photographs and a nice family group. Then it was back to the cabanna to look and choose from loads of professional photos, which you could buy on a disc. We really struggled to choose, ended up with them all as well as a disc about the park, a lovely reminder of our day.
We enjoyed swimming in the big pools with fish swimming freely around you, it was like being in some giant aquarium. Swimming past the sharks was quite nerve wracking, but although they are safely behind glass, you still do feel a little anxious. The free flight aviary was interesting, lots of colourful birds flighting around you.
The day just had a very calm and relaxing feel to it, lots of space, it didn' t feel rushed or hurried, there were lots of places to sit, no need to slip into European habit of reserving sun loungers with towels. A great day, our 2nd time here and we shall no doubt be back.
