Orlando Speed World
Anyone interested in Drag racing, or any car related sport, of any kind, even NASCAR type stock car racing. Will really need to visit Orlando Speed World, for a fantastic afternoon / evenings entertainment. They don’t see many Brits there, and are very welcoming toward us. Here you will find quarter mile drag racing as well as oval circuit racing. Personally I prefer the drag racing, but the circuit racing sounds great too!
It is located at 19442 East Colonial Drive (Hwy 50) Orlando, Florida 32820 near the town of Christmas, where they celebrate Christmas 356 days of the year! A great place to see as well. It is a sanctioned National Hot Rod Assoc. track, so has some great events all year round.
I have been going there for 6 years now... I travel there every October just for the racing. In October they stage the “World street finals” this is a real MUST SEE, EVENT! The fastest streetcars in the world, fighting to see who has the fastest street legal car! They may be turbo powered; Nitrous injected or supercharged, these cars are capable of travelling at over 200 mph, and are capable of 0 – 60mph at less than 2 seconds. If you are bored with the tame show at Old Town, get yourself down to Orlando Speed World, for some real exciting racing. Best thing is to check the website for special events that are on during your stay. You will not be disappointed. There is a food and drink area, as well as loos. Or take a cool box with you, Entrance to the events is usually around $10 per person, kids go free.
The Thursday before the racing starts for this particular event. All the cars turn up at the Race Rock Café. That is a great night out; you can see all the competitors and chat to the owners and drivers. As well as sink a few Buds and have some great food.
There are special events, as well as normal street racing and even have special late night street racing events, that start at 10pm until 2am. This was set up between the police and local authorities, to try and stop the kid’s street racing.
They even have a Crash-a-Rams event on the oval track; the kids will just love it.
You can't miss it; there is a race school bus outside!
The track has been there since 1966.
