Balloon Ride over Orlando
I must admit, I was quite apprehensive about flying in a hot air balloon, with no parachute and nothing between the balloon and land but a big drop! It took a lot of convincing from my family that I’d enjoy the ride and had nothing to worry about.
We arrived early in the morning, about 6:30am, and the field was still wet with dew. The sun was just coming up over the horizon and you could tell it would be a nice, calm day. The balloon was on the ground, ready to be inflated. I was still nervous and trying to keep my cool.
We watched as they unloaded the basket and fitted burners to the basket, and we were able to participate by helping to unroll the balloon and straighten it out and help to keep it open while it filled with air. It was an amazing experience to be part of this.
Once ready, we boarded the basket and said goodbye to those left behind and the balloon every so gently lifted into the air. The sun was starting to rise, and it was a beautiful morning, crisp and clear. We watched as the balloon started to rise along with the sun. It was breathtaking, and my nerves didn’t seem so bad.
The pilot explained that he’d been a practicing pilot for over 25 years and explained how the balloon worked with the hot and cold air. The views were unbelievable, and we could see for miles. We rose higher and higher when we realised that we were flying over our own rental home in Davenport. We had to take loads of aerial pictures. The community looked like loads and loads of little box houses, even though we know them to be spacious villas. It was exciting to see the aerial view for ourselves. We rose higher and higher and it became quieter and quieter. It was as if the world was perfect and time had stopped.
We were able to see some of the lakes in central Florida, and the balloon created a mirrored reflection of our balloon on the lake. I was sorry when it was time to descend but glad that we were safe and sound. Once we landed, we gathered for a champagne toast. I can only recommend it to anyone and everyone when visiting central Florida. It was a fantastic morning out, and we hope to do it again one day!
