Celebration - the place to celebrate your trip to Florida!

A visit to the Orlando area of Florida would not be complete without a visit to the town of Celebration, it is one of our favourite places and we are sure you will love it just as much as we do. Situated off Highway 192, close to the I4 junction, your route is well signposted. Drive along Celebration Avenue and follow the signs to Market Street and you will be at the heart of this charming place.

Conceived as an ideal small town by Walt Disney, it was completed is 1996 yet the design is pre-1940s. You will pass beautiful homes complete with rocking chairs on the front porch and will not fail to notice the pristine grass and immaculate gardens! Everything a community would need is contained within the town – including banks, post office, a great variety of shops and stores and a wonderful choice of places to eat.

Once parked, start with a stroll along Market Street and plan what you are going to do first. We can never resist lunch at the Market Street Café – fantastic sandwiches or burgers and great desserts. After a chance to soak in the atmosphere, you can take a look at the shops surrounding the café, you will find that there is something for everyone. Gifts, crafts, clothing, toys and collectables. Hopscotch is a favorite – classy clothing and accessories – plus some great yarn on sale for the knitters amongst you. After all, knitting is the new yoga and if it’s good enough for Julia Roberts is good enough for me! !

If you can manage an afternoon tea then Celebration Hotel can provide that and in beautiful surroundings too. You cannot fail to notice the picturesque lake at the end of Market Street – a walk along the waterfront will get you in the mood for dinner and if you need to sit and think about where to eat, grab one of the rocking chairs which line the lake side. Booking a table at your choice of one of the many restaurants may be advisable in busy times. Sit out on the patio on one of the swing seats, at the Boston Town Tavern, and enjoy one of their superb steaks or pick from a fantastic choice of seafood or maybe you are looking for Italian cooking – if so, we can recommend the Café D’Antonio. There is a restaurant to suit everyone’s taste in food.

Not only does Celebration have great shops, a beautiful lake and even a movie theatre but at various times of the year there are festivals and special events to enjoy. There are sidewalk sales, live entertainment, food festivals, and art shows. How about a posh pooch celebration? – dogs of all shapes and sizes dressed for the occasion and there are even showers to cool our four legged friends if the weather gets too warm for them.

An absolute ‘must see’ if you visit in the month before Christmas is the ‘snow’ falling on Market Street. Yes, really – it snows! ! Folks dressed in tees and shorts and playing snowballs – now that is something to tell the folks back home! !
