Pinewood Estates at Christmas
You have just got to love staying in a villa in Kissimme at Christmas time - one day you are at the Razzamatazz of Mickey' s Very Merry Christmas party and the next you can visit the elegant and elaborate decorations of the Pinewood Estate.
Pinewood Estate is part of the Bok Tower Complex near Lake Wales. From 26th November through to the 2nd January, the house is transformed into a showcase for the local companies and volunteers to display their skills in Chritmas decorating.
This year (2010) it focuses on Holiday Memories and we made some memories for ourselves when my friend and I left our husbands back at the villa, to have a day reading, whilst we made the 45 minute journey along Highway 27. Just past Eagle Ridge Mall on Mountain Lakes Road we easily picked up the signs for Bok Tower and followed them through to the entrance gate where we paid the $18 cover charge each. This gave access to everything that Bok Tower and Pinewood had to offer.
Having parked the car, we made the short walk to the main buildings and from there took the path signed to Pinewood Estates.
The house was an absolute treat to see. The ladies, who volunteer , in their best Christmas attire, were welcoming and knowledgeable. The decorations captured the holiday spirit in detail and had us . . oohing and . . aahhing at every turn. From entrance to exit Christmas invaded the senses and as we left we were invited to vote for our favourite room . It was not easy to choose. I have added some photographs of our visit and you will see just how difficult it was to make that decision.
It is only recently that visitors have been allowed to take photographs of the interior of the house and this is becasue they now change their decorations every year. We will certainly go again and can recommend the trip as a ' do not miss, ' if you are a group of adults. There were a number of local families picnicing in the grounds and listening to the Chritmas music from the bells, but it is not a trip for the teens or toddlers. Children would enjoy it beteen 5 years and 10 years old as it does capture the Magic of Christmas very well.
