Can you still get bargains shopping in Orlando?
Yes you can. Even with the dollar rate as low as 1. 35 it is still possible to get some good bargains shopping in America. Mainly it is the brand names that offer the best bargains.
For example UGG boots; £175 here in the UK but around the equivalent of £90 in Orlando.
The factory outlets offer the best bargains around and it is not all very high end shopping. Brand name jeans are another good example, Levi Strauss and Wrangler are both around £75 in the UK but can be found in Orlando for the equivalent of £50.
Designer clothes are still good buys – Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Hugo Boss spring to mind – and of course the high end designers like Fendi, Georgio Armani, Max Mara and Burberry, not cheap but cheaper. Of course there are always the quality clothes stores that we do not have in the UK like Kenneth Cole and Barneys of New York, it' s always good to have something nobody else has! For you ladies who love your shoes and handbags Coach is a must. Do not be tempted to buy clothes at the ordinary shopping malls though.
Brand name trainers a still worth buying, but do be careful and know your prices before you leave as some names like Skechers are now cheaper in the UK. This is a good rule of thumb for all your shopping whilst on holiday; decide what you are interested in before you go and take a note of the prices so you don’t make any expensive mistakes.
The best outlets are Premium Outlets on International Drive and Premium Outlets in Vinelands, Lake Buena Vista. For more general shopping two of the best malls are Florida Mall and slightly more up market The Mall at Millenia.
For those chefs among you, good quality knives such as Global are still cheaper in Orlando (but do remember to pack them in your suit case to return to the UK. Do not carry them in your hand luggage – you could set off all sorts of alarm bells at the airport security).
Well those are some of the best buys to save you money in these difficult times, but there are things to be wary of that are still cheaper in the UK. Laptops, digital cameras and camcorders are now cheaper or the same price plus if they go wrong it is long way to go to take them back! I do also know from experience that if you see a lap top price that looks really cheap, be aware that some stores will charge extra to install all the programs. This could add another $300 to the bill. Also from experience I know that most of the small independent camera stores charge way over the odds than the prices charged in the stores in the malls.
