Adventureland In Magic Kingdom
Adventureland is a lovely part of the Magic Kingdom Park that we never seemed to visit when the girls were young. However although now twelve years old one of our girls likes to visit every nook and cranny of Magic Kingdom and when we were last at our villa with her we spent a very enjoyable couple of hours here.
First we headed for the Jungle Cruise which is a ten minute tour across four continents. It was a very hot busy day when we visited and although we had to wait for the cruise there was plenty of shade and cooling fans.
There is a continuous supply of boats with names like “Amazon Annie”. We have since been on this cruise several times and realize that all the guides have their own ad libs which serve to make the ride even more enjoyable. If guests are in wheelchairs they can remain in these on the cruise and I believe there are interpreters for the deaf on special days. We find this a most relaxing ride as well as a chance to sit down. Be warned a night time trip through the jungle can be more ominous!
Young and old will enjoy the Magic Carpets of Aladdin as you take a flight over Agrabah on an “enchanted” carpet. This is just like the Dumbo ride and four people can ride on one carpet, in the middle you will see the Genie lamp. If you ride in the front you can control the up and down motion whilst the back passengers can control the pitch of the carpet from front to back. However you need to be aware of the water jets. If you get time between you fun you can look out and see all over Adventureland. The queues for this ride are rarely very long.
If you fancy an ice cream after this ride you can sit and enjoy a Dole Whip Float.
Right at the end of Adventureland you will find the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. This is based on all the “Pirates” movies and is refurbished/updated regularly. At busy times you may well have to queue for this but it is well worth it. It is a ten minute cruise and really is suitable for all ages. Each boat holds bout thirty people and they are loaded very quickly.
You go though the mist at the beginning of the ride and there is so much to see throughout it is easy to miss things, be sure not to miss Johnny Depp! You exit through the gift shop and may have to yield to temptation if you have younger boys with you.
Finally for the energetic there is the Swiss Family Treehouse which is based on the Disney film Swiss Family Robinson. You need to be prepared as the tree is 90 feet high and 60 feet wide has 116 steps and no elevator so this is definitely not for the faint hearted. However the view from the top is fantastic.
Once you have been to Adventureland you will want to keep returning.
