Mickey's PhilharMagic 3D movie
Mickey’s PhilharMagic is situated in Walt Disney World’s theme park Magic Kingdom and has to be one of the best 3-D films around. It is located in Fantasyland just to the left of Cinderella’s Golden Carousel as you approach it from underneath the castle. The show lasts for twelve minutes during which time you will see plenty of 3-D effects. The screen is an incredible one hundred and fifty feet wide although when the entertainment begins you will notice that the screen is much smaller. It is only when the film gets under way that it begins to stretch, you may not even be aware that this is happening because you will be so engrossed in the action. Then all of a sudden you will realise that the screen occupies the full width of the theatre. It is the biggest seamless screen that has ever been developed for any 3-D film.
Whilst waiting to enter the theatre take a look at the posters on the walls. They are advertising past performers at the Fantasyland Opera House. This is the theatre in which you will be watching Mickey Mouse performing with his orchestra, The PhilharMagic.
In the waiting area are the doors through which you will enter the theatre. If you wish to sit at the back of the theatre, head for the right hand door. If you wish to sit at the front, wait by the doors on the left hand side. Personally, I do not like to sit too near the front as I think you get a better view of the 3-D effects from sitting further back.
As you enter the theatre take a look as the stage, which has been decorated with musical instruments. Also, look at your chair; the posts of the seat backs are carved like violin heads. The chairs are very comfortable and I must admit to nearly falling asleep one time when we had had a very long day at the park.
When everybody is seated the show begins and the audience will hear Goofy asking, “Where is everyone? ” the curtain rises but the orchestra is missing and Donald is asleep.
You are then transported along with Donald on a magical journey through several of Disney’s animated films including Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and the Lion King. The 3-D effects are amazing and coupled with the sights, sound and smells, which occur during the performance it makes the whole experience staggeringly mind-blowing.
Just one word of warning though, the show can be rather loud in places and the 3-D effects could be a little too intense for very young children.
