Planning your trip which airport or airline?
Just recently with all the problems of airlines going under I have had a number of requests from guests for advice about flights.
I thought it would be helpful for people to consider a variety of options that they may not have considered before.
Travelling to an Orlando based villa there is a choice of airports, Orlando International, Sanford, Tampa and Miami to name but a few. One always has the choice to drive part of the way and visit somewhere enroute.
Most people only consider Orlando as a destination airport forgetting the rest. We usually find that Tampa or Miami tend to work out quite a bit cheaper or have better availability.
If you want to fly direct then there is Virgin or BA plus the charter airlines into Sanford. Don’t forget BA also has flights into Tampa which are direct they just don’t fly every day of the week.
Now if one chooses to fly indirect then there is a massive choice of routes and airlines which will give a much bigger variety of flights. We tend to fly American Airlines at the moment. They have very good leg room which for the taller person can make or break the journey. Most people end up with favourites be it for the price, convenience, flight destinations or whatever but be open to suggestion.
We will consider any route providing it fits in with what we are looking for and have travelled with a vast number of airlines and some are definitely better than others. There will always be the horror story everyone has them but when one looks back at it and compares it with past journeys they have normally worked out OK in the end.
We tend to fly indirect, it started when our kids were little and we thought one long flight would be a nightmare where as 2 shorter ones with a break in the middle would be better. This has continued now they are all adults and sorting out their own flight. We all just prefer to get off go through immigration and have a bit to eat before continuing the journey and look on it as part of the holiday. None of us are good travellers and do find that on the rare occasion we have flown direct it has taken longer to recover from the flight.
When looking for flights do look on airlines websites, plus some standard travel sites like Expedia etc and travel agents for a good comparison. Have an idea of when you want to travel and the approximate amount you want to pay so that when you get offered something that matches what you want you can make a quick decision. Flights tend to go quickly especially at peak times.
