Victoria and Alberts Resturant Review
Victoria and Albert’s restaurant is located in the Disney Hotel the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. The hotel itself is a bit impersonal as it is so big and it is and hugely expensive, so we were not quite sure what to expect from the restaurant. We had heard good reports so we were hopeful. The occasion was a good friends 25th Wedding Anniversary and they had invited us along for the evening to celebrate in style! It was only 3 days before Christmas so it was a perfect night to go!
We arrived at the hotel and the valet appeared and whisked our car away, we arrived at the restaurant to be met by a nice lady who checked our reservation and then the Maitre D appeared from nowhere and showed us to our table. We had been given personalized menus with our names on and it showed us what the evening’s ware was! The dining area is supposed to be a Victorian drawing room atmosphere which they had managed nicely. There was fine china (Wedgwood) and a nice ambience all round. A gentleman was playing the piano in one corner of the restaurant. It was very cozy and most people had made a real effort, one gent even had on a Tuxedo. We had chosen suits and evening dresses which was more than suitable.
Our servers appeared and of course this was Victoria and Albert! They were dressed in period costume they welcomed us and explained the menu in a well rehearsed sort of manner! We opted not to have the wine pairing, this was $50 a head, and we opted for our favorite drinks instead.
There were some fantastic things on the menu and it changes daily. The meal consisted of seven courses. It sounds a lot but the portions are small so you could put all 7 portions onto one plate and have a healthy meal!!!!
My choices were:
Course one: Jumbo Lump and Peekytoe Crab Timbale with Avocado Crouton
Course two: Nantucket Scallops with shaved Fennel and Satsuma Tangerines
Course three: Alaskan Sable Fish with Floridian Crown
Course four: Grilled Prime Fillet with Celery root potato puree and Braised Short Ribs
Course five: Backed Seckle Pear with Gorgonzola Dolce
Course six: Vanilla Bean Crème Brulee
Course seven: Celebes Tea and Friandise
The whole experience was lovely and the service was top class. The menu is fixed price at $95 per head. I would highly recommend it for that special occasion you may be celebrating.
