Sweet Tomatoes; a pleasant surprise!
Over the years we have often passed a Sweet Tomato Restaurant and never been inspired to eat there.
Well that has all changed and I have to say it is most impressive.
If I am asked to recommend a heathy restaurant in the parks area I struggle a bit but this is definitely it and if you have a vegetarian in your party this is arguably your best choice.
As we entered we were greeted with the longest salad bar I have ever seen. Not just your boring lettuce/tomatoes/cucumber but caeser salad, roasted veg and feta(yum, yum), monteray blue and peanuts and thai peanut and red pepper.
I think we loaded our plates with a little of everything and made our way to the till; another pleasant surprise as this was only around $10 per person and included everything! I imagine dinner is a little more maybe. The everything was the salad, breads, pizza, baked potatoes and fillings, soups and cheeses. Oh and also a selection of puds and your choice of unlimited sodas, tea coffee and hot chocolate.
We chose a window table and set our salads down while we investigated the soups; both home made so we had a bowful each to eat before embarking on our towering salads.
All that done we had to choose between a slice of home made pizza or a dessert since we were too full for both; in the end dessert won out.
On the dessert section was jello, chocolate pudding, brownies and muffins; oh but then there was also soft serve ice cream. Ice cream and chocolatepud won the day and was quickly followed by 2 cups of reasonable coffee.
The branch we visited is at Lake Beuna Vista (12561 South Apopka-Vineland Rd 32836) and near enough the shopping places to walk off some of your meal.
If you visit their website they have a calorie and fat count for all their food items so you can make your best choices before you go.
The salads are far and away the stars of the show so make sure you concentrate on those when you visit
This is a self service restaurant so if you like waiters serving you it is not for you. Also in truth the seating area smacks a little of works canteen. However, everything is clean and neat and the food well presented and laid out.
Do ignore the boring name and give Sweet Tomatoes a try on your next visit to the Sunshine State!
