THe Osceola Softball Complex
We have all seen the fantastic miniature Golf parks along the 192 and International Drive and I would agree that they are a great place to spend an hour or so with the family but if you are looking for something a bit different why not go for one of our families’ favorite locations, The Osceola Softball Park.
Our family loves baseball and softball which we do not get to play, or watch as much as we would like here in the UK. So when we first came over the pond for a vacation we made enquiries as to where we could find some batting cages for a bit of swing practice. We were directed to John Young Parkway where we found a great local facility that has now been firmly placed on our “must do” list whenever we visit the area. The park has 8 fantastic batting cages with pitching machines which range from fast pitch baseball down to slow pitch softball. For just a couple of dollars you can get loan of helmets and bats and have 15 pitches in the cage of your choice. Alternatively for just a few dollars more you can hire the cage for a full 30 minutes and hit as many balls as you can ( and trust me that is a lot of balls pitched at you in that time!) We sometimes hire a cage and the whole family takes turns in the allocated 30 minutes. My 6 year old was getting pretty good in the Slow pitch cage while his dad, although easily hitting the softballs for home runs every time, just managed to clip a couple of balls as they whizzed past him in the fast pitch baseball cage! It is just amazing how fast those balls can travel so more practice required we think. The only proviso to using the cages is that you must sign a waiver sheet and be wearing closed in shoes, so no open toed sandals.
If you are not feeling energetic enough for the batting cages there is also the option to take a seat in the stands and watch a game of Softball on one of the 5 diamonds that are arranged around the clubhouse in a clover leaf style. For us it is a great way to spend the evening.
The Osceola Softball Complex is located on John Young Parkway just south of the Osceola Parkway. We highly recommend it so why not give it a try.
