Fun Spot Action Park

After finding the Fun Spot by accident on our last visit and having had a great time on the go-carts there, we decided to revisit on our recent trip in February this year.

Fun Spot is based off International Drive (near Wet and Wild) and has four good go-cart tracks, a huge ferris wheel, family rides, kiddie rides and a free video arcade. The format has changed since our first trip. Then, you could purchase tickets for single rides or laps of one of the go-cart tracks. Now, you do need to purchase a ticket to enter the action park. There are three types of ticket – A spectator ticket ($5), a Rider’s Pass ($20) which entitles you to ride on everything, except the go-cart tracks, and a Driver’s Pass ($30) which covers all rides and tracks. They are valid all day, so you can come and go as you please. Hours during peak season are 10. 00 am to midnight Fridays and Saturdays, and 10. 00 am to 11. 00 pm Sundays to Thursdays.

Our two boys had the Driver’s ticket (they had a dated yellow armband around their wrist to identify them as having the ticket) and we had the spectator ticket (our hands were stamped), although when we saw the boys enjoying themselves on the go-cart tracks, we wished we had opted for the Driver’s ticket! We couldn’t go on the rides or tracks, but we could have fun in the video arcade.

The boys were in their element and they were on and off of the various go cart tracks. Our boys are 8 and 12 and both could use three out of four of the tracks. There is a height restriction of 52” minimum for the go-carts and an age restriction of 10 years minimum. Unfortunately you have to be 12 or over to drive the fourth track, which has sharp bends and needs more concentration to drive.

Once the boys had exhausted themselves on the tracks, they checked out the other rides. They were not tempted by the big ferris wheel, but loved the Paratrouper and the Scrambler rides. The Bumper Cars were also a hit, but my favourite to watch was the Bumper Boats. These single rider boats leisurely meandered around the pool, but each one has a squirter and can squirt the other riders (not the audience, but my two tried! ) There is a mushroom in the middle of the pool throwing out water around the edge and the riders tried to nudge the other boats under the mushroom to get the other riders wet – great fun to watch.

When we wanted a break from watching the boys having fun, we tried out the video arcade, which we enjoyed immensely. There were the favourite arcade games and driving and shooting games too, with many PS2 games hooked up too. I got hooked on an alien invasion shoot-em-up game.

There is a small eatery on site with food, drinks and slushes, to keep the kids going.

We spent half a day there and the time passed so quickly. It is close to the Prime outlets, so we took a break and did some shopping and returned afterwards for a few more goes on the go-carts.

The boys had a great time and we shall be returning, next time though, the whole family will be getting the Driver’s tickets!
