Longhorn Steakhouse on the 192
We had never been to a Longhorn Steakhouse until one opened a couple of years ago at Rolling Oaks Common. This is situated on the 192 about two miles before it meets the 27 and is opposite the Orange Lake Complex. It is a good place for guests returning from the Parks and staying on the far end of the 192 or on the 27 to stop off for their evening meal.
My Father and I went soon after it opened and were very impressed and we went again last year. Previously the nearest Steakhouse for us had been Outback at Formosa Gardens and the queues could be very long waiting for tables.
As with most restaurants in Orlando you cannot make a reservation at Longhorn but we had not previously realised you can “call ahead” to put your name on the waiting list for a table. Here you can also eat at the bar although it is a straight bar not very long and you only have the drinks bottles to look at! There is a Happy Hour which finishes at 7. 00pm and they usually have about four bottle beers on offer for about $2 each.
However as this can be very popular with families on their way home it was very noisy with tired children the first time we went so we decided to dine later on this visit. We started our evening with a drink at the bar before asking for a table as it appears in winter months on weekdays after 8. 00 pm it is usually reasonably quite.
All the staff were very friendly and as the whole restaurant is western themed they all wear jeans. You are surrounded by western artefacts including a huge cows head on the bar wall.
We had had an early breakfast and missed lunch as our previous experience had taught us the portions were large so we made sure we were hungry.
I must admit our server was so helpful answering our questions patiently and recommending wines to go with certain dishes. I opted for the French Onion Soup which the server had said had some Madeira in and it was delicious. My Father had and thoroughly enjoyed the Shrimp and Lobster Chowder. Both the soups were very reasonably priced at about $5.
We both chose one of their “Legendary Steaks” which came with a side, a salad and unlimited lovely warm bread. Dad had an 18 oz Outlaw Ribeye and I had an 11 oz New York Strip.
Too full for a dessert we returned to the bar for a final drink before getting a taxi back to the villa. We will return to Longhorn again on our next visit.
