Kobe Japanese Steakhouse - Teppanyaki
We were lucky enough to be introduced to Kobe’s Japanese Steakhouse by some American friends of ours. At first we were a little unsure as they explained that it was a meal and show (not our sort of thing). They also said it was very “touristy” but fun, but we bit the bullet and agreed to go.
Upon arrival we were seated in the bar area and I was recommend the Plum wine, not been one to shy from alcohol I eagerly agreed. It was like nectar, sweet, refreshing and very easy on the taste buds (if not too easy as a few more glasses followed! ).
We opted for the “Teppanyaki” menu, which can be explained better by translating the two words “Teppan” meaning table and “yaki” meaning cook, so basically “table cooking”.
After a few minutes were where led to a table that seated 10 in a “U” shape, three on each side and four in the middle (been the four this is where we came to sit). Usually I find this type of seating arrangement can be little uncomfortable, feeling that I have to make small talk with the rest of the table. However, this was not the case and as the meal continues you find more and more to talk about. The other thing I found quite appealing was everyone on our table (apart from us) appeared to be locals – now if that is not an sign of approval for a restaurant I don’t know what is.
(PLEASE NOTE: for those who really do not want to share tables, I have found out since that you may request a table to yourselves and they will try to provide, but having experienced the shared table, I would recommend people to try this way first.
After ordering our meal from a wide selection of Beef, Chicken, Lobster, Steaks, Salmon, Shrimp, Scallops, Vegetable, Combo’s and more, we where brought clear onion soup and salad with the most delicious salad dressing, my partner who is usually salad shy even finished the lot! Then came the entertainment with the chef bringing the raw meat and seafood everyone had ordered and commenced cooking it at our table in front of our eyes.
Make no mistake this just wasn’t a chef cooking; he hurled eggs in the air to be caught by the sharp end of his cleaver, a unique yet dangerous way of cracking your eggs. He made striking towers from large onion rings and proceeded in setting them alight causing large blasts of shooting flames to raise to the extractors.
All meals included vegetables, egg fried rice, noodles and two different types of sauces all of which are cooked in front of you and are extremely scrumptious and as the food is constantly coming to your plate in batches you feel you are eating forever (in a good way).
Prices start around $17 this does include the soup, salad, rice and noodles.
