The Lobster Shanty
There is simply nothing nicer than a delicious meal in a lovely restaurant with a sea view.
Jack Bakers Lobster Shanty has a panaramic view of the Atlantic Ocean and an exciting menu.
This restaurant has been in business for 5 years and was started by Jack Baker and his wife. In the beginning there were just 4 tables on the couples porch and local people would stop by on their way home for a glass of wine and the catch of the day.
Nowadays Jack Baker retaurants feature all thge way down the coast from Maine to Florida.
In 1999, the restaurants were sold to a consortium of brothers but Jack still takes a great interest in his old businesses.
What makes this particular restaurant so special is that is built on the land of Jacks original home/restaurant.
Having heard this romantic tale I bet you cannot wait to visit so let me whet your appetite.
The Appetizer Sampler is a great choice for starter; this is a platter of calamari, coconut shrimp, crab cakes and stuffed mushrooms.
Otherwise a Lobster Bisque is always a tasty option; particularly in the winter months with its lovely sherry base.
There is a raw seafood bar but I think I will quickly gloss over that! ! !
Now for the main event: I love stuffed things and they have a dish called Stuffed Atlantic Flounder. This fish is stuffed with crabmeat and bathed in a champagne sauce. This comes with your choice of a house salad or a corn chowder. All soups served here are home made.
Another good choice is a Shanty Sampler: this is lobster tail, stuffed shrimp, scallops and flounder. This platter comes with either fries, baked potato, rice or veg.
You can of course choose from a tank full of live lobsers, but personally I prefer not to have been introduced to my dinner!
Carnivores are not left out and there is a range of meat dishes to choose from. Or you could have the best of both worlds and go down the ' Surf and Turf' route.
This restaurant has truly come a long way since Jack cooked his catch of the day in a converted clothes washer (which he upgraded later to a bath tub cooker)
