First Impressions
A year ago today we made the trip to Florida for our first Floridian Christmas.
The family was split up as we could not all get seats on the same flight. Both flights were to arrive at Orlando International Airport within half an hour of each other so we arranged to meet up in the main concourse at the Christmas Tree. It was here that I felt our Christmas had started.
As we entered the main concourse we were greeted by an explosion of coloured lights on the biggest Christmas Tree I had ever seen and Christmas music that put us all in a festive mood even after a long flight.
We were soon “on the road” heading for our villa at Orange Tree, a blast of Christmas music playing on the radio.
It was now getting dark and here and there as we drove past villa communities, we were amazed by the amount of decorated houses. Many coloured lights made it very cheerful and we smiled as we drove past massive blown up Santas, raindeer, snowmen and even Mickey and Minnie all dressed in Christmas outfits.
Arriving at the entrance to Orange Tree it was all dressed for Christmas and many residents had decorated their houses and gardens.
We decided to go to the Disney Parks in the few days before the official Holiday Season. One good thing is that all the Attractions and Theme Parks have their Christmas Programme in place usually on the 1st December so anytime you visit from then until the New Year you will profit from the Christmas Festive Spirit.
We arrived early at The Magic Kingdom just as the gates opened at 8am. We were amongst the first visitors for that day, everything was fresh, bright and clean looking and the sun was shining. At the entrance we were greeted by staff smiling and saying
“Happy Holiday, have a good time” ( nice to see folks enjoying their job and looking happy)
Main Street was a real treat on the eyes. Spectacular lights and decorations. I remember thinking how odd it was to be in the “Christmas Swing” at 8:30am wearing a pair of shorts !
The day got better and better as we explored what The Magic Kingdom had to offer. They certainly know how to entertain you in the land of Walt Disney.
We made our way around the Park taking rides and having fun in the sun. The best part for me was the visit to the Candy Store on Main Street . It was not the Candy that interested me (although that was a treat to the taste buds ) it was The Barber Shop Quartet performing in-store. The songs and harmony were excellent.
We watched the main Parade which was “magical” (even for adults) and made an early departure home for a rest and to plan our next visit - for the evening Festivities.
