Afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian
For an absolute treat why not head out to the most beautiful hotel in Disney – the Grand Floridian Resort, for an old fashioned and very English afternoon tea.
I would recommend booking advance table seating for afternoon tea as the restaurant is small and intimate and there are only around 10 tables.
The Grand Floridian is very easy to get to and parking is free. You could always treat yourselves to the valet parking service. Once inside head through the magnificent foyer area towards the tearoom which overlooks the very pretty veranda and garden area. As you approach you can hear the tinkling of china and quiet chatter reminiscent of taking tea in a bye gone era.
Your waitress will seat you in very comfortable tables and chairs that are upholstered in pretty shades of pinks, lemons and greens. It gives a palm court atmosphere with live piano music playing softly in the background. On display are trays and beautifully presented platters of delicate cakes and biscuits, scones and tarts.
The menu has various ‘tea’ options and you can choose one of these fixed menu options or choose to make up your own teatime experience from the A La Carte menu. I had a full afternoon tea with tiny sandwiches made from a range of breads and fillings. These were followed by scones which were fresh and warm from the oven, served with freshly whipped cream and fruity jam. There was a choice of cakes and tarts and the whole thing was washed down with Champagne! Not forgetting the actual tea! This was the one and only time we have experienced a proper cup of English tea in Orlando. They made the tea with really good English tea from Taylor’s of Harrogate. They used boiling water and it came in a teapot, and served in china cups and saucers.
My husband chose a more savoury option. His ‘tea’ consisted of not just sandwiches, but a selection of cheeses with chutney and savoury pastries.
My little girl was treated like a Princess and had her own children’s tea. This was called the ‘Mrs Potts Tea’ and she was given her own teapot of sweet, fruity tea to drink.
The ladies of the party were presented with a gorgeous posy of fresh flowers as we arrived at the restaurant which was a lovely touch and made us feel extra special.
Afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian is a wonderful experience and we will be repeating it again on our next trip. Put the kettle on Mickey! !
