The Bone Fish Grill
An experience for lovers of fish and seafood why not try The Bonefish Grill?
The Bone fish grill opened its first restaurant in St Pete’s at the start of the new millennium; it has quickly expanded along the whole of the east coast of the US and is now opening new restaurants across the whole of the country. There are several in the Orlando area ( check out their website for exact locations)
After a recommendation from family we decided to “give it a whirl” and on our last trip Orlando, we visited The Bone Fish Grill at The Loop (our family had been to the restaurant at Winter Garden). We were delighted with the experience and found it a “step up” from many of the other chain restaurants.
Our server was educated and knowledgeable, not just about the menu but also about the way the food was sourced, cooked and presented and my hobby who is a bit of an amateur wine buff was impressed with his knowledge and recommendations from the wine list. He was also extremely polite, and even though he was busy, nothing seemed too much trouble for him.
We don’t usually go for starters but there was lump crab chowder on the menu which is an absolute favourite of mine and I couldn’t resist. I chose a cup rather than a bowl and it was just the right amount, I could have eaten more but wanted plenty of room for my main course. Hubby abstained from a starter………he had already spotted the desert menu which featured crème brulee!
Had I been with my sister I think we would have been sharing the Bang Bang shrimp, the servers, recommendation. That’s definitely on the list for our next, “girls only” trip! !
Hubby is not a big lover of fish and rarely chooses it when we are dining out, the one exception being salmon. His intention had been to choose something from the grill, a steak, or chicken, but he does love English fish and chips and decided to plump for Sir Wills’s fish and chips, fillets of tilapia in a tempura batter. There were three huge fillets of fish and a generous portion of fries served in a basket lined with paper. They were served with tartar sauce which he declined, but the server brought vinegar on request and my hubby pronounced it delicious……. . one of the best meals of the holiday, and this from a man who is difficult to tempt away from Italian restaurants!
I chose Norwegian Salmon which was served with a side and a choice of one of four sauces. I chose garlic mash and a warm mango salsa, it was superb and I am delighted to say that despite the mango salsa I finished every scrap.
Hubby had left room for the crème brulee but it was coffee only for me as I didn’t want to spoil what had been a truly delightful meal by over facing myself.
The best surprise was yet to come! The bill for the 2 of us, including 2 glasses of wine and soft drinks was a little over $40 for a meal which was definitely above average.
We will be returning!
