The Pirate League
Yo, ho, ho and a bottle of rum, heave ho me hearties, pieces of eight! Calling all would be pirates! Disney is soon to open a great new experience called the Pirate League which will hopefully fill a gap for boys who want to dress up as swashbuckling pirates.
Girls, of course, have been able to indulge in their fantasies at the ‘Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique’ where, for a fee, they can be transformed into the princesses of their dreams. But, until now, there has been nothing for little boys. However, at the end of June this will change. The success of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ films and the upgrading of this attraction at Magic Kingdom has given Disney the idea of offering what they call an ‘immersive’ experience, where youngsters can assume a pirate persona. Of course, there may be many little girls who will be thrilled at the idea of joining in. The Pirate League will be situated in an area between the entrance to Pirates of the Caribbean, and the Pirates’ Merchandise shop.
Like the Princess makeovers, there will be three different packages.
The first one is called the ‘First Mate Package, ’ and this costs nearly $50 plus tax. For this your young pirate will receive a bandana, a sword and sheath, a pirate coin necklace and a choice of facial effects such as scars, tattoos, fake teeth, earring and an eye patch. They will also receive a 5 x 7 photo and a personalised pirate oath.
The ‘Empress Package’ is also approximately $50 plus tax and includes the bandana, sword and sheath, pirate coin necklace plus shimmering make up with tattoos, nail polish, face gems, earring and an eye patch. They also receive a 5 x 7 photo and a personalised pirate oath.
Finally, the ‘Captain’s Package, ’ which is around $125 plus tax, includes a choice of costumes from a selection of pirate outfits, facial effects such as scars, eye patch, earring, tattoos, fake teeth, eye patch, pirate coin necklace, sword and sheath as well as three 5 x 7 photos and the personalised pirate oath.
When your little pirate-to-be arrives at the attraction they will be given an official pirate name before going off to the ‘Muster Station’ to receive a variety of accessories, including eye patches, earrings, gold teeth, beards and of course scars. These will be applied by a ‘veteran pirate’ or ‘Pirate Master, ’ who will perform the make-over, whilst recounting tales of his pirating adventures.
Once the transformation has taken place, the swashbuckling scoundrel will take a sacred oath, in order to join Captain Jack Sparrow’s motley crew of buccaneers, after which they are allowed access to a secret treasure room, behind a secret door. Of course they must first have their photograph taken.
The Room itself will be suitably decorated in true pirate fashion with cross and skull-bones, pirate weaponry, the Jolly Roger, and plenty of pirate treasure. Once fully transformed the novice pirates can search for clues and discover treasure on the streets of Adventureland. There is even a chance to learn the secrets of survival from Captain Sparrow himself at one of Captain Jack’s Pirate Tutorial.
This is bound to be very popular so if your little boy is keen to join in then do make a reservation in plenty of time. Next time you go to Magic Kingdom, look out for these scoundrels and rogues!
