Florida Guide > Hints and Tips
Staying All Day at a Park
When you get to Florida lots of families want to maximise the time spent at Parks – you can always sleep when you get home!
I must admit when the girls were small we did not stay out all day at the Parks because they just became very tired and irritable. You only have to go to Magic Kingdom early evening to see so many little ones fast asleep in their strollers to see how it affects them. In those days as our villa is only ten minutes for the Disney Parks we used to go early in the day come home for lunch after which they would have a sleep and wake up refreshed to go back to the Parks in the evening.
Now the girls are older we do manage to stay at a Park/s from opening time until just before they close but this does take some preparation.
It can be very exhausting to be on your feet and walking all day so for a few weeks before we go we all try to go out for walks at home on a regular basis. Next is the thought put into footwear. Everyone is different but you need to take at least two pairs of footwear with you on holiday. Most people like to wear trainers although against all odds my Mother manages to wear flat sandals. I have seen a lot of people wearing Crocs which are great for the water rides but I do not know if I could wear them all day.
We usually hire a locker and in this we put a change of footwear as well as ponchos and a change of clothes.
We always have a good breakfast before we start often having scrambled eggs and fruit and try not to have too much starchy food. We put bottles of water in the freezer the night before so have a good supply of water for the day. When you are out for so long you must be careful not to get dehydrated.
Whichever Park/s you are going to plan it well beforehand and make good use of your Fastpasses this will save you a lot of time.
We usually have a break mid morning and always go inside to make good use of the air conditioning.
At lunch time we usually have a table service lunch as we find this more relaxing than queuing for food or having a buffet lunch. We have in the past when we were at Hollywood Studios used the Disney transport and gone to the Swan and Dolphin for lunch. We try to have plenty of salad, vegetables and fruit as a heavy meal can make us tired and slow us down.
We return to the Park refreshed and enjoy the rest of the afternoon/early evening. As we have a change of clothes in the locker we usually get changed late afternoon enjoy more rides and go for a pre booked meal in one of the Parks restaurants. By this time we are beginning to feel tired and one alcoholic drink perks us up but beware of a second one because you might fall asleep!
