Revamped Mc Donalds on Buena Viasta Drive
We have often passed this McDonalds, situated on Disney property, whilst on our way to one or other of the parks. You couldn’t really miss it as it had a huge hamburger, fries and milkshake on its roof, as well as cartoon characters. There was a huge yellow ‘M’ at the entrance, with murals of Ronald McDonald on the exterior walls, and a huge Ronald McDonald standing outside – a popular place for a photo opportunity. There were some pretty basic outside tables and benches and little shade, apart from umbrellas over the tables. Altogether it was pretty gaudy, and rather old fashioned.
However, recently, we noticed that it looked quite different, so we stopped off to have a look and my goodness what an amazing transformation has taken place inside and outside. It has had a major refit internally and externally, and the result is quite startlingly sleek and modern.
The building itself is now white with lots of glass and screens across the tops of the windows which have huge pictures on them. The colours scheme is mainly yellow and white on the outside, with a huge curved yellow roof. Gone is the huge yellow ‘M’ and in its place a more modest sized one on the wall, with the word ‘McDonalds’ in large white letters on the roof. There are outside eating areas which have a casual but comfortable feel, with wicker chairs and palm trees for shade. Between the chairs are small, colourful circular tables in yellow and lime green. There are more traditional tables and chairs which offer plenty of room for eating al fresco.
Inside, the decor is up-to-the-minute, bright and colourful. There are white tables with chairs in primary colours – red, yellow , blue and green. However, the most interesting feature is the huge overhead panels which display sporting scenes, and these panels are in co-ordinating colours with the chairs. There are also two group areas with long white bars with high green backless seats along each side. These are located under wooden canopies and there are four flat-screen TVs to watch as you pass the time before your order arrives. The beverage stations are also huge and conveniently located.
The inside ordering counter is open daily from 5. 00 am until 1. 00 am. Of course, there is a drive-through which is open 24 hours a day. McDonalds have also added a special expresso coffee bar area called ‘McCafe, ’ which features a designated area behind the counter with automated espresso machines. These machines have a built in refrigeration system which will dispense either whole milk or non-fat milk, according to the customer’s preference. They serve premium roast coffee drinks, cappuccinos, mochas, lattes, and, of course, hot chocolate. Prices are considerably lower than similar offerings from Starbucks, for example.
When we visited at lunchtime it was pretty empty but apparently it gets extremely busy at breakfast and dinner time, as it serves the three All Star Resort Hotels.
