Christmas Brunch at the Peabody - no contest!
OK - so you’ve made the decision to spend Christmas in Orlando – the villa’s booked and the countdown has started. Gift shopping can wait until you get there but just what are going to do for Christmas lunch? You are on holiday so spending time cooking a huge lunch on the big day doesn’t sound too attractive.
Answer – Christmas Brunch at the Peabody on International Drive.
We had ‘ummed’ and ‘aahed’ over various menus from numerous places and finally decided on the Peabody after reading a recommendation on the forum. Everything was booked over the internet and all we had to do was turn up at the chosen time.
Whilst waiting to be seated, we met the Peabody ducks. They are a group of very spoilt ducks with their own penthouse suite. After parading through reception each morning, they spend their day splashing in the fountains before finally walking back to their own elevator back to their luxurious pad in the evening.
Our table was in the Capriccio Grill. As soon as we had sat down, a waiter appeared to make sure we had the drinks we wanted. Although the restaurant was very busy, there was always a member of staff close by to help with anything, nothing was too much trouble.
The food was served buffet style and we were taken aback at our first sight of what was available to eat. As it was a brunch, there was an amazing selection of breakfast items – eggs any way you like, meats, pizza, waffles, breads. We decided that if we tucked into any of the amazing choices, we’d have little room for anything else so we headed for the traditional lunch items.
Spoilt for choice we wandered around trying to decide ‘if we had some of this, would we have room for that because we really want to eat some of that’. There were a large number of appetisers - salads, fish, cheeses, fruit and patés. For mains, turkey, ham and beef plus winter vegetables, potatoes and various sauces.
Each food item that was meant to be hot was exactly that. There were a number of food stations and so no queues despite a large number of people in the restaurant.
After staggering back to our table, we tucked in. Fantastic. Everything was well cooked and tasty. We could have gone back for more as many times as we wished. But hang on what about the desserts?
Oh dear, have we eaten too much already? Maybe we need a while to ensure that we can appreciate the next course? No problem, we did not feel rushed and could have kept our table for as long as we wanted it.
Finally, we could take advantage of the wonderful choice of individual pastries and sweets and ice creams, all very tempting and some difficult decisions to make as there were so many, it was impossible to try them all! However, we made a good effort between us!
Now it really was time to surrender – no more food! !
We would definitely return to the Peabody for Christmas Brunch and will also visit at a non-holiday time. The food and service were excellent and, in our view, faultless. See you there!
