'50s Prime Time Café - Hollywood Studios
If you do not enjoy your servers chastising you for not eating your greens or telling you off for having your elbows on the table this is probably not the restaurant for you. However if you fancy a bit of playful banter and can give as good as you get, you will really enjoy a meal at Hollywood Studios’s fun dining experience 50’s Prime Time Café.
It’s just one big happy family! Mom is cooking in the kitchen and your cousins are helping out today serving the meals. The décor is tacky, I’m talking Formica tables and cow shaped salt and pepper shakers here but it’s all part of the 50’s ambience. Classic 50’s comedy shows, including I Love Lucy and Dick Van Dyke, run in a loop on the overhead televisions and in the Tune-in Lounge.
When your table is ready your server, sorry that should read “your cousin”, will call out “Mom’s ready for the Leach kids!”, or whatever your surname is, and your 50’s Prime Time experience begins. For some reason our “cousin” decided that one of our party was called Skippy and kept asking him “Hey, how you doin’ Skippy?” The menu serves just what you would expect, good old-fashioned home cooking. Comfort foods are in abundance, pot roast, home-cooked meat loaf, fried chicken and milk shakes as examples. This is not haute cuisine by any means but hey, it’s not just about the food.
As we were handed our cutlery we were told to “set the table nicely” making sure that we kept our elbows off the table. One poor gentleman had obviously been told too many times because he had been given a dunce’s hat to wear at his table. We were all encouraged to become members of “the clean plate club” and having seen what went on if we dared to leave a morsel of food on our plates, we duly obliged. Should you happen to leave any food on your plate the rest of “your family”, that’s servers and guests, would wag their fingers and all say together “shame, shame, shame” or even worse your cousin might try to make you finish all your greens by feeding you a forkful whilst everyone else in the restaurant makes choo choo train noises.
Don’t let this put you off, it really is all in fun and if you don’t want to join in just say so when you first arrive and the servers will leave you alone.
