Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit
On our last visit to Orlando in Sep of 2009 we were looking keeping our eyes peeled for the start of the new ride to hit Orlando’s Universal Studios, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. This new ride can be seen from the entrance to Orlando (right behind the Hard Rock café) and is very impressive indeed.
Towering some 17 stories high the ride is based on a vertical drop coaster that reaches 65mph and can carry up to 8 people. Part of the experience of the ride is the fact each rider can choose their own music while riding. Unlike the Rock ’n’ Rollercoaster at Hollywood Studios the Rip Ride Rockit allows you to select music from a catalogue of some 32 songs. Each category has around 6 songs in it, categories range from rock, pop, dance etc.
Considering the ride had only just opened to the public the queue for the ride was only 45 minutes long and this was not too bad as 2 of the cars were not working. As you wind around the waiting area you are told how to select your song and by the time you get to the end are supposed to be able to easily select one from the track list. If only it was that easy! By the time I actually got to the end I had around 4 songs I wanted to play! ! ! ! In the end I settled for some rock and ZZ Top got my vote.
When you get onto the ride you are greeted by the most high tech and sophisticated ride in Orlando. Once you are buckled in you are left to choose your music. Once you get to the magic beam the song is locked in and starts as you climb. The climb is one of the scariest parts of the ride. It takes you vertically up around 17 stories and then drops you over the other side. There is no waiting at the top, no slowing of the car, just straight over the top!
The ride lasts for around 2 minutes and really does leave you stomach up on the top of the first drop. Throughout the ride you are really treated to some of the best ride experiences of any ride in Orlando. This ride really is up there with some of the best rides out there.
If visiting Universal Studios you really should make time and try the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, it is one of the best new rides in Orlando and certainly a great addition to Universal studios.
