Green Meadows Petting Farm
The Green Meadows Petting Farm is an ideal place to go when you have a few hours to spare and is also a great place to go to wind down after the hectic pace of the parks.
You will find Green Meadows about 10 minutes fro Highway 192 on Poinciana Boulevard; we found it quite well signposted.
We visited the park at around 2 o’clock in the afternoon, my advice would be to try and go in the morning, the reason being, there is a large picnic area to use and also the animals are a bit more lively earlier on rather than late afternoon.
Firstly we got to pet the goats, then feed them, and then it was onto the ducks. We were told if we could catch a duck we could pet it, but, we weren’t allowed to chase them……needless to say we didn’t get to pet one but there were people there who did…. all from the same family! ! ! ! ! ! They denied living on a farm but I had my suspicions.
Next we met the donkeys and the ostrich, there were ostrich eggs all over the pen which were massive, and my four year old was really impressed. Next we went to the chicken pen to catch some chickens…which I managed…. hooray…. . Super mum…. . my daughter was impressed with that too.
There is a hay ride involved which is rather bumpy but was great fun for the children. . We met other animals including a buffalo and a zorse (half zebra half horse), piglets which liked to nibble our toes, this is one of the reasons to wear full shoes, not sandals, and the other reason is that the ground is very dusty.
We then got to milk Sweet-Lips the cow then handle three week’s old chicks and ducks, we finished with a train ride around the farm.
After the tour has finished you receive your free souvenir cup, you can stay at the farm and enjoy it at your own leisure.
There are two play areas with plenty of toys for little ones to play with and a large climbing frame for older children.
There are also plenty of trees which are great for keeping the place well shaded. Remember to wear insect repellent! ! ! !
Outside each animal pen there are hand sanitizers, which the staff recommend you use, I would also advise taking wet ones or baby wipes as with all the dust we got quite grubby.
We had a lovely afternoon at the farm and we would certainly visit again, although next time earlier in the day and armed with a picnic.
