Ice in Florida
If you want to see ice in Florida then look no further than Ice spectacular at Gaylord Palms resort.
The ice its self has been hand carved by Chinese artisans from Harbin, using over 2 million pounds of Ice and took over a month to complete
This is most definetly a wonderful winter wonderland attraction and is kept at a chilly 9 degrees Fahrenheit. This is the 6th season and my family and myself have been to it 5 times. Although it only changes slightly each year with a different theme it does start the holiday season to a great start.
This year’s theme is Santa’s arctic blast. You take a self-guided tour after donning large warm jackets provided by Gaylord Palms resort. They also provide them for children but when we have been we always take gloves, hat and scarves of our own just for added warmth. You also need to dress sensibly for the exhibition and would suggest that you also were sensible shoes.
Inside the ice area there are many sculptures each in there own setting, you will find a lovely life sized nativity depicting the birth of Christ, there are so many different scenes to see it truly is a magical exhibition. One of the more popular things is the slide and the castle where children can slide down the ice slides we were told this scene had been redesigned to accommodate Santa’s Christmas eve flight there is even reindeer's
One scene is carved with an oversized Santa over 13 foot high where even adults can be photographed on Santa’s knee looking like kids this is also a popular part of the exhibition. (Especially for the grown ups)
My favourite this year was the Victorian fantasy, which was an elaborate dining room scene all made from ice the detail I thought was fantastic
Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus are also on hand for a little discussion with the children as to what they NEED for Christmas. We also got a hot chocolate drink and a cookie whilst we were there. There are also a lot of photo opportunities to be had within the exhibition tickets can be bought online or from the Gaylord Palms Resort. If you do buy them online they are a little cheaper, but if not you can buy them at the door.
I do hope this little insight gives you a taste of ice at Gaylord and that you all enjoy it as much as we have.
