Disney’s Wilderness Lodge -- part 3
I have left the best till last and that is Artist Point. Disney calls this a signature restaurant because it is one of their best. It is not cheap but if you want a special night out then you will not go wrong here. The menu changes seasonally so it not possible to give you an exact idea of what will be available. They try to provide only the freshest food with a Northwest theme and this leads to a varied and fairly unique choice of dishes. I have found a number of popular dishes do seemed to be served most of the time and can readily recommend the cedar plank salmon.
The restaurant enjoys a good view back into the interior of the Wilderness Lodge as you dine in this second story restaurant. It also has views of the river as it comes out from under the glass back wall with waterfalls, rocky landscaping and further round has views out onto a forest area. It has some rather impressive murals of the Pacific Northwest. In keeping with the park lodge theme, iron chandeliers hang from the ceilings, and the tables and furnishings are made of exposed wood and full of animal carvings.
If you want to sit and have a quite drink then there are two places on offer, although during the winter there is really only one in the evening. Past the pool area and towards the edge of the lake is a very nice outdoor bar. It’s just far enough from the pool not to be too noisy during the day and provides a very pleasant place to relax on a warm evening.
The other ideal place to pass some time is in the Territory Lounge; this has been decorated in keeping with the overall theme of the hotel and again really works well. The Lounge is located right next to the Artist Point restaurant, maintaining the theming of the Lodge has meant that it is decorated with dark woods and North West paintings. There are plenty of other iconic North West items on display but my favourite was the wooden bear carvings that adorn both ends of the bar.
We chose a table with a nice view of the lobby area while we enjoyed some pre-dinner drinks. If you are planning to eat here for a special occasion then arriving early and getting a good seat here while you wait will only enhance the whole evening. They also offer small more private area towards the back of the lounge if you are not into people watching.
The fourth and final part of this article will deal with the grounds and the rooms.
