Enjoying a Day at Animal Kingdom
There is more than enough to do at Animal Kingdom to fill a full day, although not the evening as the park closes earlier than the others.
It really is a good idea to get there early as the animals may be a bit more active before it gets too hot and for a similar reason it may be a place to go to out of the hottest summer months.
The two main attractions that attract queues are the Kilimanjaro Safari and Expedition Everest so the best bet is to head to whichever one of these is most important to you and get a Fast Pass ticket. For the really well organised party that has arrived early you might like to go straight to one and queue while a member of the party goes to the other to get a Fast Pass time. It will take 10 minutes to get from one to the other.
Although not headline attractions there are also some superb shows on during the day. We particularly enjoyed the Flights of Fancy in “Asia” and were delighted we went in as we had nearly passed by. We are all used to seeing performing parrots but hens and vultures are something different. We also enjoyed the African music and dancing and this was great lunch time entertainment.
If, like us, you are visiting without children you can safely ignore Camp Minnie-Mickey and DinoLand USA and make the most of the displays, rides and information in Africa, Rafiki’s Planet Watch, Asia and Discovery Island. While the safari is unmissable, the Maharajah Jungle trek is also fascinating as you can go at your own pace and admire the animals you want to see like the tigers, but if you are squeamish avoid the giant fruit bats. The Pangani Forest Exploration Trail is the equivalent African walk, The highlight of this for us was being able to watch hippos underwater.
If you get too hot during the day you can always cool off on the Kali River Rapids. You will get soaked though so do get someone to hold on to your cameras.
For a different slant on things you can visit It’s Tough to be a Bug on Discovery Island, which is a 3 D Adventure – but beware there is some interaction at the end of the show!
We certainly think Animal Kingdom is a great day out whatever the age of your group.
