Celebration - A Brief Guide
One of our favourite places to visit, apart from the numerous theme parks in and around Orlando, is called Celebration. Celebration is a little town just south of the US 192 adjacent to Interstate 4. One of the best ways of finding it, if you have never visited Celebration before, is to follow the directional signs around Walt Disney World.
I think we like it so much because of its beautifully clean streets and gorgeous houses with white picket fences and huge verandas. It feels safe and friendly, the sort of place you’d like to live in, in a perfect world. Some people may think it is too perfect, but this is why we love it so much. We like to stroll around the lake viewing the wildlife, sit in the wooden rocking chairs on the edge of the lake watching people fish. Walk around Celebration and view the million dollar homes especially during the holiday season and at Halloween. The residents love to dress their houses up, I’ve never quite seen anything like it anywhere and they certainly do go to a great deal of effort. To appreciate their Christmas decorations it is a good idea to drive around at night when the residents have turned on all the Christmas lights.
Speaking of Christmas, each night from 6pm to 9pm there are ten-minute snowfalls on the hour down the main shopping street. Take an electric train ride, have your photo taken with Santa or listen to the carol singers. And best of all, there is no entrance fee!
Stroll along the quaint streets, browse around the plentiful shops, sit outside and drink a vanilla latte at Starbucks, enjoy life. It is such a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours, away from the hustle and bustle and the crowds at the theme parks.
Another reason for visiting Celebration is the restaurants. Eat breakfast at Market Street Café, sample a champagne afternoon tea at the quintessentially English cafe Sherlocks, or savour the delights of the Italian restaurant Cafe D' Antonio for dinner. All of these restaurants have inside and outside seating areas overlooking the lake. There are many more restaurants all catering for different tastes. Celebration even has its own cinema although not quite up to the multiplex cinema at Downtown Disney it does have a charm all of its own.
There are some wonderful photographic opportunities from the far side of the lake, especially when it is dusk and the lights from the buildings are reflected in the water. A visit is a must if you feel like a few hours relaxation and a bit of escapism.
