Points make prizes: World points at BAA airports
Here is a new twist on an idea that has been around for a while.
If you are like me, you have a purse full of reward cards to collect your points/coupons/money off vouchers for your patronage of various establishments, then there’s a new kid on the block.
If you travel from any BAA airport (London Heathrow, London Gatwick, London Stansted, Southampton, Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh) and regularly buy things in the shops tempting you to part with your money before you even reach Florida, then it would be worth your while getting one of their World Points cards.
As we like to get out to our home in Orlando as often as possible I joined this scheme and am collecting points to save up and use them for some extra bargains in Duty Free or add to my air miles total. You can use it in almost every shop, restaurant, bar, even the car parks and Bureaux de change inside the departures terminal. So even having breakfast before your flight will earn you points.
There are tiered levels giving you different benefits for each level:
0 – 24 points will earn you up to 50% off magazine subscriptions.
25 – 49 points gets you 25% off a VIP lounge visit to really relax in style before you fly.
50 – 99 points earns you half price travel on the Gatwick or Heathrow express.
And so on, right up to:
500 points will get you £5 off your shopping or £10 off your pre-booked airport parking. Even frequent flyer miles can be purchased.
You earn one point for every pound spent, so they can mount up quickly.
You can even use your points to earn Air miles or airport shopping vouchers. So buying your favourite Duty Free tipple or perfume can ultimately earn you even more money off the already reduced prices.
The scheme is free to join and you can pick up an application in all the participating stores inside the departures lounge of any BAA airport. You have nothing to lose, and lots to gain. The more you travel, the more you spend, and the more you will accumulate points. You can even pick up the card on arrival at the airport and use it straight away, no need to wait for registration.
In this case points really do make prizes.
Details can be found online, and registering by this method will earn you 100 points straight away. Visit the world point’s website for lots more information.
