Wolfgang Puck's Grand cafe at downtown Disney
We ate at Wolfgang pucks in Las Vegas a few years ago and it is imprinted on my memory as one of the best meals I have ever eaten, so imagine my surprise to find he has restaurants right here in Florida.
If you love your food (like me) then you have probably already heard the name Wolfgang Puck. Besides being a world-famous chef, the man owns restaurants, has a line of cookware and has cooked for the rich and famous. He is Austrian born and began his training at the age of fourteen. After an apprenticeship at L‘Oustau de Baumaniere in Provence, he developed his creativity at several three star French restaurants, including the Hotel de Paris in Monaco. He then traveled to the States in 1973 and was very soon the star attraction at Los Angeles‘s Ma Maison,as chef and also part owner.
His next venture was to open Spago Hollywood on the sunset strip.
Spago then spread and they opened in Beverley hills, Spago Chicago, Spago Las Vegas and Spago Palo Alto. The rest is history and to add to his ever expanding empire he also now has four restaurants here in Orlando. We visited the Grand Café at downtown Disney,
Wolfgang Puck Café is open for lunch and dinner, and does not close in between.. There is a sushi bar located just inside the restaurant and this can also be ordered at any table, which makes it nice for parties (if you like it that is).
An open kitchen is a feature as it is in other restaurants I have found here on Florida and At Wolfgang Puck Café everyone walking to their table passes the kitchen, and a limited number of seats are available at the counter, which can be quite entertaining.
The menu is quite vast and includes a selection of soups, sandwiches(at lunchtime) pizzas which are not your run of the mill pizzas either, and pastas obviously.
The butternut squash soup with a red pepper swirl is a favourite of mine and the Wolf-Fredo fettuccine is amazing and takes me back to Las Vegas where I first tasted it.
The Wolfgang Meatball, with bucatini, tomato, basil, parmesan and garlic sauce is also really popular.
There is also a fantastic selection of deserts and my favourite has to be the Chef Marians carrot cake with homemade cream cheese icing(to die for!).
The wine list is also extensive and overall a lovely eating experience although slightly pricy, but well worth a visit.
