The Wine Room at Park Avenue – the tour
Most wineries we have visited in Central Florida follow a very similar format. First of all you are greeted at the door and made to feel welcome. Once inside there is usually a large shop to browse through, tempting the visitor with a vast array of wines, which are sold either by the bottle, by the case or in very impressive gift sets. Add to this a plethora of accessories such as corkscrews, breathers, bottle stoppers and wine racks, and the wallet can be emptied of its contents very quickly.
Now throw in a wine tasting session, where after a few samples it becomes much easier to make new friends, followed by an informative talk by one of the resident experts and then the obligatory one-hour tour of the winery, and in a nutshell, you have a proven formula for success.
Now, to say that the Wine Room at Park Avenue up in Winter Garden, just north of Orlando, does not follow that same format would be a bit misleading, but it does put a different slant on proceedings, which marks it out from the rest.
It does have the shop and the wine tasting albeit automatically dispensed via the innovative Enomatic dispensing system, but how many wineries can boast a centrepiece
containing some of the rarest wines in the world. Behind a temperature controlled glass vault feast your eyes on over six hundred bottles of the most celebrated wines including Chateau Lafite- Rothschild and Chateau Lateur. The United States is also well represented with some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignons originating from Napa Valley in California.
If your tipple is something other than wine the Champagne Bar offers ten different varieties of champagne and, more curiously, a selection of beers with four microbrews on draught and several other brands available by the bottle.
To complement your choice of wine, champagne or beer the Fromage Cave stocks an extensive range of cheeses from around the world together with high quality meats and pates to tingle the taste buds. At any given time over fifty different cheeses may be available for purchase where Western Europe is well represented by France, Italy, Holland and Spain. The Wine Room also carries a number of American Cheese Society winners including Cypress Grove and Rogue River.
It is well worth checking out the calendar of events on the Wine Room website which gives details of forthcoming promotions, and if you are interested in learning a little more about wine there are classes available throughout the year.
If you are visiting Winter Garden, why not call in for a wine experience with a difference.
