Why buy a villa? part 3 - The Good News
SO WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU WANT TO BUY A VILLA IN FLORIDA?
Well now, at last, the good news. The thrill of getting a booking confirmed with a deposit is wonderful and gives you encouragement to carry on. Receiving thank you letters and letters of praise for ones villa is so rewarding it makes all the work worth while. Reaching our breakeven point financially each year is a real thrill. We can relax then and just enjoy ourselves a bit more.
The best thing of course is being able to just up and go any time you like to your own little bit of paradise. We still get excited every time we leave for the airport. We can escape all the worst of the weather in the UK and spend months at a time if we want to.
Another piece of advice is to try and get a villa that has an owner’s closet. This enables you to leave your summer clothes and other personal items in your villa which means you can travel with only hand luggage and a small cabin sized suit case. Not having to wait at the baggage carousels considerably cuts down your journey time and gets you to the queues for the car hire desks before any one else. Mind you, we spend so much while we are in America, we always have to travel back with suitcases to accommodate all the purchases. We have fold up travel luggage for this purpose which we take back in our hand baggage each trip.
Every time we arrive at our villa, it is like coming home. Even the thought of having to do inventories and check decoration and state of linens is not daunting, just part of the whole enjoyment of owning a villa. I have to admit, I actually enjoy going out replacing things, as I am a shopaholic. Even the mundane things like buying new toilet brushes every trip (a MUST) or replacing all the pillows every year is fun for me. I’m funny like that!
We decided early on, that we would buy the best of everything we could afford; leather furniture in the living room and dining room and the best quality pots, pans and utensils in the kitchen. Top quality bed linen and towels and even the best curtains. Consequently, we have not had to replace anything yet.
Even after seven years of ownership, we still wander through each room when we arrive and are amazed that it is all ours. This is the GOOD part of owning a villa in Florida. We still get a thrill each time we set off to Disney World, even if there is nothing new to see. Mind you this does not happen very often as they are always making improvements and introducing new attractions. There are always new restaurants and shops opening every year and new small attractions to see. Travelling at different times of the year brings different things to see and do. Christmas, is an experience all its own and definitely worth trying at least once.
So, do not be put off by all the bad news, all the good news far out weighs it, we would not still be owners if it didn’t!
