Florida Guide > Planning your Trip
What has Florida got for older teens and young adults?
As we’ve grown older and the appeal of meeting Mickey and friends has worn off a little, the idea of Busch Gardens and Universal’s Islands of Adventure has become more exciting. Busch Gardens has loads of huge rollercoasters including Sheikra and Montu. Islands of Adventure also has many exhilarating rides for teenagers such as The Hulk. My favourite part of Islands of Adventure however, has to be Harry Potter World as I felt like I’d fallen straight into the film. The que through the great hall is excellent and you have to look twice (or more! ) at the 3d holograms – Is that the real Harry Potter? ?
Although we may have been too old for Magic Kingdom, Disney’s waterpark, Blizzard Beach still offers the best, most exciting waterslides. The best has to be Summit Plummet with its near-vertical drop.
We had many shopping trips during our stay as there are many great Malls only a short drive from Kissimmee. Mall at Millennia has a great range of shops. From the more upmarket designers including Gucci and Jimmy Choo, to the high street stores like H& M and Forever21. Florida Mall was also a really good day out with many great brands including A& F, Hollister and Victoria’s Secret.
St Pete’s beach, where we stayed for a couple of nights is around a 1. 5 to 2 hour drive away from Kissimmee. A trip to the Gulf is perfect for a more relaxing time on the white sandy beach. There are also lots of activities for teenagers to do whilst on the beach, from water sports to volleyball. Or you can go east to the Atlantic coast - Try Daytona - You can drive along the beach and surf or visit the Go Kart Centre which is great value. You can also hit baseballs and play crazy golf as well.
Another highlight of our trip was visiting Lake Toho and going on Wild Willy’s Airboat Rides. I loved searching for alligators and seeing all of the different wildlife all over the lake. The captain was very entertaining and knowledgeable which really made the trip special. Wild Willy also brought his pet alligator out at for us to hold at the end; (only a small one! ) this was a great photo opportunity.
You quickly get used to the American dining experience! A typical day included pancakes round the pool for breakfast, a quick burger and chips on the go for lunch and a BBQ or meal out for tea. A couple of my favourite restaurant’s included Bahama bay and Applebee’s sports bar.
As anyone who has been to Florida before will tell you, there are many impressive crazy golf parks everywhere! We decided to go to one on international drive which was a really funny day out. We also went to see a basketball game played by Orlando Magic – A great evenings entertainment for everyone in our family.
All in all, Florida is not just for the small kids but the big kids as well – As my Dad can testify to!
Enjoy your stay and come back soon!
