Walmart; a shopping experience not to be missed!
For many UK visitors to the Orlando region, no trip is complete without a visit to Walmart. Now, we are not talking UK supermarkets here; forget Sainsburys, Tesco or even Asda Walmart, we are talking US Walmart, we are talking BIG! !
You will find branches of Walmart dotted throughout Orlando and indeed throughout the state of Florida and the rest of the USA, but commonest locations for tourists visiting the Walt Disney World area are at Medieval Times on the 192, on the 535 at Lake Buena Vista, on the 27, north of the 192 at Cagans Crossing and on the 27 south at Southern Dunes- a great location for guests staying in the Southern Dunes sub division or why not combine it with a trip to Mannys restaurant?
The layout of Walmart stores is similar but not exactly the same and it’s easy, if you visit more than one store, to wonder why childrens wear, for example, seems to have changed it’s location. Generally speaking, as you enter the store, you will find food to the extreme right and the garden centre to the extreme left . At the rear of the store are crafts, electrical and footwear.
Walmart sell EVERYTHING! ! ! ! ! All your needs will be met from toiletries to tyres, clothing to craftwork, bicycles to beers and toys to televisions. You can buy CD’s DVD’s souvenirs, postcards and most importantly, reasonably priced luggage to take your purchases home in – don’t forget not to exceed your customs allowance. Of notable value are childrens clothes, bedding and homewares, and whilst it’s not our favourite place to shop for fresh produce (Publix gets our vote for that) it certainly carries a good stock of supplies for tourists who are self catering.
In the garden centre area the merchandise is usually seasonal. Winter time brings Christmas trees, decorations and tree lights and despite year round sunshine, at this time of year it is more difficult to buy inflatables and pool toys.
Additional services can be found at the front of most Walmart stores and feature banking, opticians, and hair and nail salons. Customer services is situated here as are restrooms which are situated at the rear of the store as well. Here you will also find outlets selling hot and cold refreshments.
The shopping carts are huge and if you should fill your cart be sure to keep your receipt handy when you are leaving the store as the greeters will often ask to see them, although once produced it is likely they will only give it a cursory glance.
Walmart stores are almost always open 24 hours a day and if you have never shopped there before you really must give it a try!
