Vsiting Sebastion Park.
Sebastion Inlet Park is located at Melbourne Beach on the A1A.
This park is a huge attraction for anglers because you can catch a spectacular amount of fish. There is also a stunning 3 mile shoreline to enjoy.
The beach is divided into a 1 mile length at the north of the inlet and a 2 miles length to the south of the inlet. For the disbled there is a beach wheelchair available Call ahead on 321 984 4852 to arrange to use this. Take a stroll down the beach or swim or snorkel in the welcoming waters.
If your rental home provides bikes then there are some great trails here. There is a paved track that runs parallel to the A1A. This is a challenging distance so not for the faint hearted.
Rather more relaxing are th 3 tracks that are set within the park. These are a mixture of paved and dirt surfaces and you need to find the Sebastion Inlet entrance which is where the trails begin and end.
As previously mentioned, the fishing here is exceptional. There are 2 jetties which are good places to try your luck; these are both A. D. A. accessible. You need to check the regulations before you start; for instance, you cannot do spear fishing here. You can buy a salt water licence at the bait shop.
If you are feeling energetic then you could take the 10. k. m. that takes you through the north side of the inlet.
A less challenging option is the one mile trail that takes you down the beach to cove and then through the nature rich paved walk way.
There is a good play ground here for the little ones: this over looks the river lagoon and is well stocked with the usual favourites plus a fun green dinasaur.
The Mc Carthy Treasure museum is sited at this park; this features relics rescued from the 1715 Spanish Plate Fleet that was disastrously sunk in a hurricane in 1715.
There is also a fishing museum here and tou can see fishing boats and angling equipment from another era and reproduced dock and fish house. You can watch a video presentation that covers the history of the river lagoon; this lasts less than half an hour.
If you visit during june or july then this is when you can join a sea turtle walk that is led by a ranger: you need to reserve your place on this wondrous experience and this can be done in the months preceding the event.
There are also lots of special events held here and these range from astronomy events to concerts and talks on fishing.
This is one of the State Parks where you do not have to take a packed meal so why not give yourself a break and eat in the restaurant
