The Town of Celebration
The quaint and pretty town of Celebration is an oasis amidst the hustle and bustle of the theme parks.
Created by Disney in 1994 and launched to celebrate the life and times of a typical American town, Celebration is a pleasant mixture of both visitors and residents. Think The Truman Show. Think Back to The Future. Think Stepford Wives. It' s pristine gardens, elegant buildings and landscaped walkways can seem at first seem a little too perfect.
The central point of the town is Market Street with a selection of elegant gift shops and boutiques leading to Front Street which is lined with café bars and restaurants. The lake in the center of the town has rocking chairs and benches lining the lakeshore where you can relax and simply watch the world go by.
Celebration also has it’s fair share of excellent restaurants - the Market Street Café is a great place to watch the world go by while you grab a spot of lunch. Columbia Restaurant is highly recommended for quality food - great for an evening meal or lunch. For a taste of the East, Thai Thani offers delights from Thailand. There are lots of dining options in Celebration so do give it a try.
Celebration also has farmers markets and other events regularly held so check the town' s website during your visit to see what' s on while you are there.
For a pleasant afternoon to give you a complete break from the fast pace of the theme parks, leave the car in the town center and head towards the elegant hotel to the right of the lake and follow the road towards the back. Here you will discover one of the various ' Walking Trails' through untouched woodland offering an array of wildlife and fauna.
You have two choices. To the right lies the wooden boardwalk that will wind you through some beautiful natural woodland behind the large mansions that overlook the lakes. Oh how the other half live! You should see an abundance of wildlife and birds during a peaceful stroll and you can either return the way you came or head back to the town centre through the pretty tree lined streets.
The concrete path to the left follows the town' s large central lake. A gentle stroll gives you lovely views of the town from the opposite side. You eventually come to Celebration' s recreation area which is home to a large swimming pool, climbing frames and swings, a basketball court and skateboard park. There' s also a picnic area with tables and a BBQ if you fancy taking a snack with you. Take a break here then follow the stream and explore the pretty condo' s before heading back towards your left which will take you back to the town center.
At the fountain back in the center, you will almost certainly hear the delightful squeals of children running in and out of the fountain shoots trying to avoid them but never quite succeeding. A wonderful way to cool down!
Just opposite the fountain is a shop which has a mouth-watering selection of ice creams, cakes and homemade fudge. Choose your flavor, take a seat on the sidewalk tables and taste the delights of both the ice cream and the town on Celebration - a wonderful way to end the day.
As you may well be able to imagine, Christmas is magical in Celebration when, from the end of November right through to January, it ' snows' nightly all down Market Street. Take a drive around the streets to see the magnificently lit homes, it can be a sight to behold!
