Our trip to Boggy Creek
We have been to Boggy Creek a couple of times now as it is such a relaxing experience.
We awoke early and had a swim followed by a lovely breakfast of pancakes and fruit to set us up for the day. Had our showers, packed up the car and headed out on our way. We arrived after a ¾ hour drive on a glorious day, the sun shining, the water glistening, we sat and had a cool drink under the dappled trees before exposing ourselves to the lovely hot sun, just soaking up the atmosphere, the tranquil peace and quiet before boarding our boat to look for the wildlife.
After boarding onto the boat the skipper asked our daughter if she would like to sit up next to him to be his co skipper for the tour. We took our seats (this is suitable for someone in a wheelchair providing you can transfer, a little difficult but well worth it) we were given the emergency drill, told us where to find our life jackets etc, put on our ear muffs and then were taken out on the lake at a calm speed at first, then came the power, speeding through the long grasses, breeze blowing through our hair, absolutely fantastic. Our daughter sat there with a beam on her face that went from ear to ear, she loved it. Make sure you have plenty of sunscreen on, as it is a good chance you could get very burnt.
Once we reach the centre of the lake the skipper slowed the boat right down to see if we could spot any Alligators and we did, their eyes peering out off the water thinking ‘food’. We carried on round the lake looking for more Alligators and other wildlife. We saw lots of Ibis, Cranes, and Buzzards. The skipper turned the engine off for a short while giving people a chance to ask questions and take photos. You could hear the rippling of the water, the rustling of the trees and grasses as the wildlife moved around, such a calming atmosphere with the sun beaming down on our faces, warm and soothing.
The skipper restarted the engine and we sped off at a great pace with the cool breeze, spray of the water hitting our faces, which was lovely and cooling after getting a little warm when the boat was drifting during question time. We arrived back at the dock after a ½ hour of complete enjoyment. Before leaving Boggy Creek we went back for another drink before making our way back to our villa.
