Our First Ever Visit to Florida - Part 1
It is some years ago now but I can still vividly remember our very first trip to Florida as we had never taken a holiday that was as far away as Florida we decided that as this was to be a very special trip for us that we would go with my sister and brother in law and their 2 young children, our two kids were of a similar age to theirs and we all got on very well.
After many months of looking through brochures, yes this was before the internet we all decided that this was to be a full-on Disney experience, as none of us had driven abroad before we decided that it might be best to stop in a Disney resort as you got free transport to any of the Disney parks.
We finally decided to stay at Port Orleans one of the main reasons for choosing Port Orleans was that it was just a short ride for Downtown Disney; this was a great place for eating out in the evenings so this seemed like an ideal choice.
The free transport to any of the Disney parks including the water parks of typhoon lagoon, blizzard beach and River Country (now long since closed) was a big draw for us as driving in an unfamiliar country seemed daunting.
So Destination and where we were going to stay all decided but who to fly with, in those days there weren’t all the choices that there are today once choice was British Airways but by far the most popular were Virgin Airways and rightly so because in those days there service was a lot higher than most other airlines of the day and they seemed to look after the children a lot better and the drinks on board were unlimited and free and so Virgin airways it was.
There weren’t too many airports you could fly to Florida too at that point in time and none of us fancied the trek down to Heathrow in London and so we opted for the ever popular Manchester which is only 90 mins from our home.
What to pack how many cases to take? everyone that had been to Florida had said how cheap things were out there especially clothes, Levi jeans being one item that everyone brought back and generally more than one single pair so 4 cases where chosen, more cases could be bought if required unbelievably in those days with virgin everyone could take two cases each.
Since that first memorable visit that we loved so much we have since bought our own villa which we love and our paying guests love it too.
